Ricoh Recognised in the Global 100 for Sustainability Leadership
Each year, the Global 100 ranking, published by Corporate Knights Inc., highlights the world’s most sustainable corporations. Drawing on publicly disclosed data from more than 8,000 companies with annual revenues exceeding US$1 billion, the ranking provides one of the most comprehensive assessments of corporate sustainability performance. Companies are evaluated using three equally weighted indicators — sustainable revenue, sustainable investment, and sustainable revenue growth — with additional adjustments for factors such as penalties and the extent to which executive compensation is linked to sustainability performance.
In this year’s ranking, Ricoh has once again earned a place among the Global 100, reaffirming its position as a global leader in sustainability. This recognition reflects the company’s consistent efforts to integrate environmental, social, and governance (ESG) considerations into its business strategy, operations, and long-term growth plans.
Aligning ESG with Business Growth
According to Mikako Suzuki, Corporate Officer in charge of ESG and Risk Management at Ricoh Company, Ltd., the company’s sustainability journey is closely tied to its business evolution.
“The Ricoh Group is advancing its sustainability initiatives by aligning ESG with business growth. We are honoured to be recognised once again as a Global 100 company. This recognition reflects high evaluations of our continued efforts to expand sales of sustainable products and services, as well as investments in sustainability, including upgrades to energy-efficient facilities. Looking ahead, we will continue to work with our stakeholders to accelerate efforts toward realising a sustainable society through business activities.”
Ricoh’s approach demonstrates a shift from viewing sustainability as a standalone initiative to treating it as a core driver of innovation, competitiveness, and value creation. By expanding its portfolio of sustainable products and services and investing in energy-efficient infrastructure, the company is strengthening both its environmental impact and its business performance.
The “Three Ps Balance”: A Holistic Sustainability Vision
At the heart of Ricoh’s sustainability strategy is the concept of the “Three Ps Balance” — Prosperity (economic), People (social), and Planet (environment). This framework reflects the company’s belief that long-term success depends on achieving a balanced approach to economic growth, social responsibility, and environmental stewardship.
To translate this vision into action, Ricoh has identified seven material issues across two key focus areas:
-
Resolving social issues through business, and
-
Building a robust management infrastructure.
Based on these priorities, the company has established 16 ESG targets that guide its strategic decision-making and operational activities. These targets help ensure that sustainability is embedded across the organisation rather than treated as an isolated objective.
ESG as a Core Management Target
In 2020, Ricoh took a significant step by positioning ESG initiatives as future financial targets — one of its two companywide management priorities alongside traditional financial goals. This move underscores the company’s commitment to integrating sustainability into its overall performance framework.
Furthermore, Ricoh has incorporated ESG indicators into its executive compensation system. By linking leadership incentives to sustainability outcomes, the company reinforces accountability at the highest level and ensures that ESG considerations remain central to corporate decision-making.
Driving Impact Through Collaboration
Ricoh’s continued recognition in the Global 100 highlights the growing importance of corporate sustainability in shaping the future of business. The company’s emphasis on collaboration with stakeholders — including customers, employees, partners, and communities — reflects an understanding that meaningful progress toward a sustainable society requires collective effort.
As global challenges such as climate change, resource scarcity, and social inequality intensify, Ricoh’s integrated ESG strategy offers a compelling example of how businesses can contribute to solutions while driving long-term growth.
By aligning sustainability with innovation and governance, Ricoh is not only strengthening its competitive position but also helping to build a more resilient and sustainable global economy.
