Ricoh Announces Development of the New RICOH GR IVx Compact Camera

Short intro:
Ricoh Imaging has announced the development of the RICOH GR IVx, a new high-end compact digital camera featuring a newly developed lens with a 40mm-equivalent focal length. The new model is planned for release in winter 2026 or later.

A New Addition to the RICOH GR Series

RICOH IMAGING COMPANY has confirmed that it is developing the RICOH GR IVx, expanding its popular GR range of premium compact cameras.

The new model builds on the RICOH GR IV, introduced in September 2025, while offering photographers a different perspective through its newly developed GR lens.

The GR IVx features a 26.1mm F2.8 lens, providing an approximately 40mm field of view in 35mm-equivalent terms. This is closer to a natural human perspective than the wider 28mm-equivalent lens found on the GR IV, making it particularly suited to everyday and snapshot photography.

Key RICOH GR IVx Specifications

Based on Ricoh’s development announcement, key specifications include:

  • Approx. 25.74-megapixel CMOS sensor
  • 40mm-equivalent F2.8 lens
  • 8 lens elements in 6 groups, including 3 aspherical elements
  • 5-axis sensor-shift image stabilisation
  • ISO sensitivity from 100 to 204800
  • Hybrid autofocus combining phase detection and contrast detection
  • 4K video recording at 30p or 24p
  • Approximately 53GB of internal storage
  • microSD, microSDHC and microSDXC support
  • 3-inch touchscreen LCD
  • Wi-Fi 6 connectivity
  • USB-C with charging, data transfer and DisplayPort support
  • Approximate weight of 265g including battery and memory card

Ricoh notes that these specifications remain subject to change while the camera is under development.

Designed for Snapshot Photography

The change to a 40mm-equivalent lens is one of the most significant differences between the GR IVx and GR IV.

The more natural field of view gives photographers another option within the GR family while maintaining the qualities for which the series is known: high image quality, fast response and portability.

Ricoh has also indicated that additional new functions are planned, with further information expected when the camera is officially announced.

GR IIIx Production Expected to End

Alongside the GR IVx development announcement, Ricoh confirmed that production of the current RICOH GR IIIx, GR IIIx HDF and GR IIIx Urban Edition is expected to conclude as availability of certain components comes to an end.

For the Japanese market, final shipments are expected in October 2026, although timings may vary in other regions.

When Will the RICOH GR IVx Be Available?

Ricoh currently plans to release the RICOH GR IVx in winter 2026 or later.

A precise launch date and final specifications have not yet been announced.
