UK Businesses at Risk from Cybersecurity Neglect, New Ricoh Report Reveals

• 56% of organisations report a lack of cybersecurity awareness
• Fewer than half of UK businesses provide regular cyber training
• One third struggle to integrate technology into employees’ daily tasks

London, 20 June 2025 – As the UK marks World Productivity Day, Ricoh UK is warning that cybersecurity blind spots are quietly putting businesses at risk. New research shows that fewer than half of UK organisations provide regular cybersecurity training to employees, leaving many exposed to growing digital threats.

Findings from Ricoh’s 2025 UK Digital Maturity Survey, which gathered insights from more than 570 business professionals across the UK, reveal that over half (56%) of organisations say their employees lack basic cybersecurity awareness.

The report, designed to assess the current state of digital adoption and future readiness among UK businesses, also highlights persistent gaps in digital infrastructure and hybrid working environments.

Among the most concerning findings, half of UK organisations still rely on manual or paper-based processes, while a third struggle to integrate technology into employees’ day-to-day tasks. In addition, one in five organisations has yet to adopt cloud technologies, and only half report having strong digital tools in place to support collaboration. A quarter of respondents also say their hybrid workspaces are already in need of rethinking.

Commenting on the findings, Chris Hopton, CEO of Ricoh UK and Northern Europe, said:

“Our research shows there is a clear reality gap holding back growth in the UK. These gaps not only limit efficiency and agility, but also expose organisations to increasing levels of risk. Recent and well-documented cyberattacks across the UK have demonstrated the devastating impact of weak digital infrastructure, with public services, healthcare providers, and businesses alike suffering major operational disruption.”

He added:

“Productivity and resilience are now intrinsically linked. Organisations must prioritise the development of secure, integrated digital environments that enable teams to work effectively, collaboratively, and securely.”
